Aging in Style…Universal Design
Do you have difficulty reading small print? Is your favorite rock ‘n’ roll song now Muzaks’ Top 10 elevator hit? If so, quite possibly you are one of 78 million Baby Boomers. Trendy Boomers are customizing their homes, which enables them to continue living there independently and safely.
Tips: • Install additional safety lighting. Most accidents happen in bathtubs, showers, walkways and stairways. • Control sunlight glare. Window sheers defuse sunlight; mini blinds deflect it. • Light-colored wall coverings, work surfaces and counters increase reflectance of light. • Install safety bars in shower and tub. They aid adults and children. • Widen doorways and halls. When our home environment makes us feel comfortable, safe and secure, it improves our quality of life.
